I don’t know about you but I love going to the super shopping warehouses. Sometimes I am looking for something specific, like a great deal on a huge box of my favorite waffles, and other times I go for the snack samples! I can admit that if you are a member, or can go with one, you can almost have lunch at some of these places. On my most recent visit, I had run out of eggs and new I could get an 18 count carton for the same price for one dozen at the local super market. While waiting for my husband, an older gentleman came up to me and asked “what type of golf balls are those” and I just laughed. Right then he made a connection and we went on to talk about the upcoming storm, his wife and his months’ supply of Depend undergarments. He made his encounter with me memorable but I also thought that he was one that never met a stranger and did not mind taking a minute to get to know me. I would also guess that he loves talking to people, never meets a stranger and picked on me because I seemed like a person that would engage in conversation.
In the world of music, the bridge between your fabulous voice and your musical genre, lies in the connection to the listener. I have said this before but it is your responsibility to find opportunities to allow new people to discover you and get to know you. Please don’t worry about finding fans and begging for likes and follows. In the end, you have to just be yourself. The world is full of fabulous people and when given the opportunity to discover you, they are richer because of it. Give yourself a chance to connect with others every chance you get. Smile at others and say hello, have little self promo when given the opportunity to talk about yourself. Ask what type of music they like and then tell them about yours (they didn’t know you were musical so it’s a nice surprise). Share the love out and their “getting to know u” will be a natural evolution of discovery.

Have you ever wondered why you or your family members and friends seem to make the same mistake or do things the same old way, over and over again? It could be a bad behavior or a good behavior but we tend to work in a cycle. Believe it or not, your body is like a well-designed engine full of various chemicals that can alter mood and behaviors. In addition to being a creature of habit, we have various triggers that happen on a chemical level, which stir our “pot” and drive our actions.
If you are fortunate to live near an amusement park or have a state fair come to your community each year, thrill seekers, young and old, will hop onto the fastest ride in the park. Although they might be scared out of their minds, they will hop on that ride several times to get that thrill. That thrill is a chemical push that happens in their “engine” and it makes them want more. Our human motivation can be driven by some of those same chemicals. I know for me personally, I love getting in front of a crowd and sharing my knowledge about a particular subject or subjects and I know what drives me is that chemical rush. I realize now how complex the human body is and how these internal chemicals play an important role in the motivation process. Why do I mention this on a music blog? Simply put, you will have to make some sort of chemical switch to motivate yourself to get to your goals. Think about it from the chemical perspective. · Dopamine – The Rush you get from completing a task, engaging in social media · Serotonin - Thought to be the center of well-being and happiness · Oxytocin – the relationship chemical · Cortisol – Fear / Fight or Flight If you know what motivates you and you know the source of that “chemical juice” that gets you going, it will keep you on task and help motivate you to stick to your goals. It’s all about knowing yourself better to become a better self |
